The Concept of God: The
Source or the Mainframe Computer
"God is not a being and is
free of everything and therefore he is everything".
— Meister Eckhart
There are many ways to describe God. It depends on how we want to
perceive Supreme Consciousness. The word God is never openly discussed in The
Matrix Trilogy. Instead, God is symbolized as The Source, the mainframe computer
from which all the programs for The Matrix originate, including The Architect,
The Oracle, and other programs that control the Matrix world. The movie is about
Neo’s journey to meet The Source, which culminates in his Self-realization, or
in religious terms, God-realization. Reaching God is the only way to end all the
internal and external conflicts, which is how the movie ends. It is interesting
to note that the truth the Upanishads speak about God is universally understood
by God-realized people irrespective of their cultural origin. Here is a
representative quotation by the German Scholastic, Meister Eckhart:
"Back in the womb from which I came, I had no
god and I was myself, a pure being, a knower of myself by divine truth . . .
Therefore I pray God that he may leave me of god, because the unconditioned
being is above god. I am my own cause, both of my eternal and my temporary
being. By virtue of being eternal I shall never die. If I had not been, there
would have been no god". - German Scholastic, Meister Eckhart:
Neo experiences light (Jyoti) in every step he takes while walking
towards The Source. Neo is shown as the embodiment of light. When we reach The
Source, we understand that we are made of nothing but light, the Consciousness
principle behind all energy and matter.
The Source is God, Supreme Consciousness with no form, and so can only be
symbolically represented. The misunderstanding of who, or what, God is has been
the cause of conflict, wars, and suffering throughout the ages. One group says
he is like “this” and fights or persecutes another group who says, no, he is
like “that.” Neuroscientists from the University of California at San Diego
have found what they call the “God module” in a tiny group of nerve cells in
the frontal lobe that appears to be activated during religious experiences. But
this is just the material functioning of awareness in the brain, when God is
thought of as an “experience.” Consciousness (God) is not an experience and
has no physical form, and can only be known on the level of unmanifest
Consciousness.
As long as we hold onto a specific concept of God as a person or image,
it is difficult to know Him as Consciousness. All religions and theologies are
like boats to carry us across the ocean of ignorance. Once across the ocean, we
have to step off the boat. Clinging to one view or another of God will make us
reluctant to leave the boat and take the journey into the Inner Self where we
can experience God.
God is neither male nor female, and has no form or image. Look at the
quote from Neale Walsch, in his latest book Tomorrow’s God.
Tomorrow’s God does not require anyone to
believe in God. .Tomorrow’s God is without gender, size, shape, color, or any
characteristic of an individual living being, unconditionally loving,
nonjudgemental, non-condemning, and non-punishing.”
— Neale Walsch
The Upanishads teach that understanding “reality”
is the only way to know God, and the reality is consciousness. Look at Joel
Goldsmith
's quote from his Christian tradition.
The necessity for giving up the material sense of
existence for the attainment of the spiritual consciousness of life and its
activities is the secret of the seers, prophets, and saints of all ages.
— Joel S. Goldsmith (1892-1964)
We can Deny God as a male or a female or a thing or
in any form, but we cannot deny God as consciousness through which we
“witness” everything.
Here is a beautiful book that explains God. The author is a
research scientist and beautifully difference between consciousness and
awareness, the two terms commonly confused. Everyone
should read this book "Journey To The Source: Decoding Matrix
Trilogy to understand whether God as “Consciousness” exists or not.
